Indulux is our regular distributor on the Dutch market. Our long-standing cooperation is not just business, but a true partnership. We simply feel that together we are working not only for profits, but also for a good cause. The collaborative lighting upgrade at Grolsch facilities in the Netherlands was aimed at reducing electricity consumption, caring for the environment and the well-being of employees. The need to phase out fluorescent lamps was the main reason why the company decided to replace the light sources.

Challenge

NEEDS

The investor wanted a system consisting of LED luminaires with a minimum luminous efficiency of 160 lm/W.

PROFILE

The luminaires should have at least IP65 rating and be capable of operating in increased humidity and temperature.

The facilities of Grolsch, one of the most recognisable breweries in Europe, were equipped with fluorescent lamps. Due to the need to reduce the plant’s electricity consumption and the entry into force of an EU ban on this type of discharge lamps, the investor contracted Indulux to carry out the lighting replacement. The requirements for the upgrade of the lighting included specification of the technical parameters of the luminaires, the pricing and the delivery time, all of which we met. The investor wanted a system consisting of LED luminaires with a minimum luminous efficiency of 160 lm/W, as well as at least IP65 protection and the ability to operate at elevated humidity and temperature. The brewing industry, the source sector of the project, runs a number of processes. Some of these are carried out in separate rooms/areas of the facility, such as the bottling plant, yeast house and brewery. This is a natural division due to the prevailing conditions, e.g. varying temperatures, increased relative humidity and odours

Lighting concept

We exceeded the investor’s basic requirements for the replacement of the lighting system, i.e. the efficiency of the luminaires and their ability to operate at high temperatures, so that the effect of the replacement exceeded the company’s expectations. The initial phases of the lighting replacement, for which we supplied the luminaires, included the production areas in the Brewery and the building through which green thermal energy for Grolsch is transported.

Within the specified timeframe, we handed over more than 680 Industrial LED luminaires in version 03 to Indulux, with a higher luminous efficiency of 180 lm/W than was required. The LED luminaires used for the lighting upgrade are also resistant to increased humidity and operating temperatures of up to 50˚C, and have an IP66 rating. The luminaires satisfied every condition set by the investor.

Ultima HT 3.0

  • conditions: increased temperature (up to 70°C)
  • specification: separate aluminium profile for the power supply, which makes it possible to lower its operating temperature
  • was used in areas where temperatures are too high for standard sealed luminaires

Industrial LED 6.0

  • conditions: resistance to chemicals
  • specification: IP 66 ingress protection, stainless steel hooks, polycarbonate diffuser (non-yellowing)
  • high luminous efficacy of up to 180 lm/W

Cordoba LED 3.0

  • conditions: weatherproof outdoor luminaire
  • specification: high efficiency of 162 lm/W results in real savings. Its maintenance-free nature generates additional savings on servicing
  • used to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians on site

Details of cooperation – discover the power of benefits

In overseas projects, Luxon collaborates with qualified local distributors, allowing it to pursue its mission of efficient lighting solutions anywhere in the world, providing a comprehensive service from audit to design, luminaire supply to installation.

• Indulux performed a lighting audit and recognised the needs of the Dutch Grolsh facility and the investor,

• so that together we could select the most advantageous solution,

• Indulux then carried out the complete lighting system

With this model of cooperation, Grolsh gained tangible savings in energy consumption, more than just meeting the lighting standards. Improved working comfort (light intensities 40% higher in relation to previous conditions), trouble-free use for years (no maintenance cost for replacing light sources) and a reduced carbon footprint.

We decided to work with Luxon LED because of its high quality standards, higher luminaire efficiency than that of its competitors and previous joint projects. The fact that it is a European manufactuer offering flexible delivery times and extended warranty was also important
