Stadler
Case Study Stadler
Modernization of lighting in the production hall of the Swiss rail vehicle manufacturer, focusing on improving working conditions, aesthetics, and energy efficiency while maintaining existing cable routes.
In 2019, Stadler commissioned Luxon LED to modernize the lighting in its production hall. The main goals of the project included improving lighting conditions, enhancing the aesthetics of the luminaires, and automating control. The project was to be carried out without modifying existing cable routes, requiring 1:1 installation of new luminaires in existing points.
Production hall lighting modernization
Rail vehicle manufacturing
Working in variable conditions in the hall, lighting automation, improving aesthetics and work comfort
Challenges
Installing luminaires in existing points without changing cable routes
Improving working conditions while enhancing lighting aesthetics
Automation of lighting control adapted to shift work
Adjusting lighting to changing working conditions, including wagon rotation
The client expected improved lighting conditions while maintaining existing cable routes. It was also essential to increase work comfort in the production hall, where working conditions changed due to wagon rotation. An additional challenge was automating lighting adapted to the plant’s work mode.

Lighting Concept
For the modernization, Ultima DB luminaires were selected, which, thanks to their low glare index (UGR), improve work comfort and have an aesthetic appearance. The luminaires are adapted to work in high temperatures and cooperate with the DALI control system, enabling zoning and automatic dimming. The replacement of luminaires took place at existing mounting points, preserving the current cable installation.
Ultima DB
A luminaire with a low glare index, providing comfort in the production hall and an aesthetic appearance. It works with the DALI control system, enabling lighting automation.
Scope of Cooperation
We began the cooperation with a detailed inventory of the existing lighting installation. A crucial aspect was maintaining cable routes, which required installing new luminaires in a 1:1 system. The client also required raising lighting standards in terms of work comfort and aesthetics.
The use of Ultima DBL luminaires with a low glare index allowed for improved visual comfort for employees, while the DALI control system ensured full lighting automation with dimming capability. Installation work was carried out without interrupting the plant’s operations.
Implementation Results:
warranty on luminaires
energy efficiency thanks to control automation
Improved work comfort due to low glare index (UGR)
