Case Study Sports Hall Knatthús Hauka
New sports hall with a total area of 12,200 m² featuring an LED lighting system compliant with FIFA Class 2 requirements and providing an illumination level of 800 lx.
The project involved a new investment – the Knatthús Hauka sports hall, covering an area of 12 200 m² with a height of 10 meters. The investment was carried out by the distributor SEG LED‑SOLUTIONS EHF, who approached us to design and select the optimal LED luminaires.
Luxon LED was responsible for providing a lighting solution that would not only meet the lighting standards required for sports facilities but also be perfectly suited to the building’s infrastructure, structural design, and investment objectives.

CHALLENGE: Meeting stringent FIFA Class 2 standards and achieving 800 lx illumination
Customer’s Challenge:
The new sports hall was designed as a venue for competitive sports events, requiring high illumination levels (800 lx) and uniformity compliant with FIFA Class 2 standards. Additional challenges included the 10-meter hall height and the need to eliminate glare effects.
Our Solution:
We developed a custom lighting design based on modular Ultra LED luminaires. The R&D team engineered configurations of double and triple luminaire assemblies, which – thanks to specialized mounting brackets – delivered high luminous flux, ensured uniformity, and minimized the number of light points.
CHALLENGE: Structural Constraints – Weight, Installation, Safety
Customer’s Challenge:
The semi-circular roof design and load-bearing capacity limitations ruled out the installation of heavy luminaires. Solutions also needed to be impact-resistant against ball strikes and free of glass components.
Our Solution:
We proposed lightweight, modular Ultra LED luminaires that could be safely installed even in high-traffic sports zones.
CHALLENGE: Integration with Client’s DALI2 Control System
Customer’s Challenge:
The lighting needed to be fully compatible with the client’s planned control system. Full DALI2 compliance was essential—both at the power supply level and in the group structure.
Our Solution:
The luminaires we supplied were equipped with DALI2-compliant power supplies, enabling seamless integration with the client’s system. The entire setup was ready for implementing lighting scenes and schedules without requiring any additional configuration from Luxon.
The challenge involved the semi-circular roof design and the hall’s sports purpose, necessitating the construction of double and triple luminaires mounted with specialized brackets to achieve uniformity and intensity exceeding the required standards.

Lighting Concept
For the project, we selected the Ultra LED luminaire – a robust and efficient linear highbay fixture designed for facilities requiring high illumination levels and impact resistance.
The Ultra LED features an IP65 ingress protection rating, IK10 mechanical impact resistance, high luminous efficacy of up to 197 lm/W, and a lifespan of up to 135,000 hours.
In this installation, the luminaires were specifically customized for the sports facility requirements – our R&D team developed double and triple configurations to achieve the necessary lighting parameters. The applied mounting accessories enabled beam angle adjustment and precise positioning relative to the existing cable routes.

Cooperation began with the preparation of a dedicated lighting design. The client requested luminaire selection, and based on the provided assumptions, we developed the concept and light distribution simulation.
The R&D team developed variants of combined luminaires that met the project requirements while accounting for structural and logistical constraints.
In the sports hall project, we needed to devise a solution meeting the required lighting parameters – primarily 800 lx illuminance and high uniformity.
Basing on the lightweight, modular Ultra LED luminaire, we designed double and triple assemblies that delivered the necessary luminous flux while maintaining ball-impact resistance.
The key challenge was the luminaire linking structure, which required extensive measurements and adjustments to ensure durability, safe installation, optimal light source positioning, and lighting quality compliant with standards. The final custom solution was perfectly tailored to the hall’s infrastructure and operational conditions.
