Modernization of lighting on the Highway A4
The modernization of lighting on a highway is a project that positively impacts user safety. For this purpose and to reduce operating costs, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Opole decided to install new LED luminaires. It is one of the first authorities to decide to renew the lighting on all sections of the highways it manages.

The number of light points along the entire length of expressways and highways is truly remarkable. They are densest in areas where there are intersections with other roads or parking areas and highway rest stops. This is associated with an increased risk of accidents. Therefore, it is especially important to increase the intensity and uniformity of light in these zones and to adhere to the design guidelines of the GDDKiA.
During the implementation of the lighting modernization for the highway section near Opole, we encountered several challenges. First, we addressed the condition of the existing lighting infrastructure. The results of the inventory prompted us to use the existing poles and replace the luminaires one-to-one. For this purpose, the Cordoba luminaires with LED technology proved effective. The installation movement required for this type of lighting upgrade posed an additional difficulty. Therefore, the company ZABERD paid special attention to the safety of travelers and the working conditions of the installers. The installation of the LED streetlights was carried out according to a pre-determined installation plan and with great care.
We have successfully carried out road lighting upgrades more than once. The company ZABERD also appreciates this. We worked for them on the section of the Autobahn A4 near Opole. We were invited to cooperate because we met the GDDKiA’s requirements for LED lighting, references, and the price of our luminaires and services.
The longest and busiest highway in Poland is the Autobahn A4. As a result, there are a significant number of accidents each year. In 2021, 34 people died, and more than 200 were injured there. Compared to other highways and expressways, this is unfortunately an unfavorable record.
On behalf of the Regional Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA Opole), we modernized the road lighting with LED lamps in cooperation with the company ZABERD. The replacement of light sources brought a number of benefits, including:
