Case study Grolsch

Luxon and Indulux for the Grolsch Brewery in the Netherlands

Indulux is our permanent sales partner in the Dutch market. Our long-standing cooperation is not just limited to business but is a true partnership. For us, it is simply that we work together not only for profit but also for an important idea. The joint modernization of lighting in the Grolsch plants in the Netherlands aimed to reduce power consumption, consider environmental issues, and improve employee well-being. The main reason for the company’s decision to replace the light sources was the need to decommission fluorescent lamps.

Customer:

Indulux for Grolsch in the Netherlands Brewery industry

Industry:

Beer production

Type of object:

Production areas, buildings with green heat energy, outdoor area

Requirements:

Technical parameters of LED luminaires, their prices, and delivery time

Special features of the plant:

Temperature fluctuations, increased relative humidity, and odors

Challenges:

Increasing intensity while reducing costs

The luminaires should ensure a tightness of at least IP65

Increased humidity and temperature

Luminaires in LED technology with a luminous efficacy of at least 160 lm/W

The buildings at Grolsch, one of the most famous breweries in Europe, were equipped with fluorescent tubes. Due to the desire to reduce the plant’s power consumption and in view of the upcoming EU ban on this type of discharge lamps, the investor commissioned Indulux to replace the lighting. The requirements for the modernization of the lighting included the technical parameters of the luminaires, their price, and delivery time — all these points were met by us. The customer wanted an installation of LED luminaires with a minimum luminous efficacy of 160 lm/W, which should ensure protection class IP65 and be able to operate in increased humidity and temperature. Brewing involves production using several processes, some of which are carried out in separate rooms/areas, such as the bottling plant, the yeast house, the brewhouse, or the filtration plant. This subdivision is logical given the conditions prevailing there, such as temperature fluctuations and increased relative humidity and odors.

Lighting design concept

The basic requirements of the investor for the replacement of the lighting system, namely the efficiency of the luminaires and their ability to operate at high temperatures, were fully met, so the effect of the replacement exceeded the company’s expectations. The first phases of the replacement of the lighting with our luminaires concerned the production areas in the brewery and the building through which the green heat energy for Grolsch is routed.

Within the specified timeframe, we supplied Indulux with more than 680 Industrial LED luminaires in version 03 with a luminous efficacy exceeding the minimum requirements of 180 lm/W. The LED luminaires used for the lighting modernization are also characterized by their ability to withstand increased humidity and operating temperatures of up to 50°C and comply with protection class IP66. The luminaires met every condition set by the investor

Ultima HT 3.0
