PepsiCo is a global leader in the food industry and a leading Polish producer of carbonated beverages. The company owns such brands as Pepsi, Mirinda, 7UP, Mountain Dew, and produces sugar-free beverages such as Pepsi Max, Pepsi Light and Pepsi Light Lemon, as well as non-carbonated drinks such as Lipton Ice Tea, Toma juices and mineral water Krystaliczne Źródło. The company operates in four production plants. In two of them – in Michrów and Żnin – a detailed lighting audit was carried out by an independent auditor DB Energy. After the audit, the company decided to modernize the lighting system and replace existing luminaires.

Challenges
How to reduce cost of electricity in a large, modern production plant, offices and break rooms?
The priority of modernization of the lighting system in PepsiCo production plants, offices, break rooms, corridors and on the external parking of the company was to reduce the costs of electricity consumption. In order to choose the right luminaires, it was necessary to meet the strict standards and regulations regarding the food and beverage industry. The project had to take into account the results of the audit that had been carried out beforehand. The requirements applied to the quality of luminaires and illuminance (depending on the type of production – between 300 and 500 lux, and 500 lux in offices). Luxon LED was one of several companies that took part in the tender procedure. We carried out our own audit and we created a savings calculation that offered more possible solutions than the one provided by the external audit. Our offer was selected, because it proved to be the most beneficial to the customer, thanks to the optimization and efficient components of our lamps with the highest efficiency and the lowest price.

In the case of PepsiCo, the leader in its industry, only the best solutions were being considered. On the one hand, we had to ensure a high return on investment rate and on the other proper production flow. In combination with the control system, we achieved payback period of 1.5 years and improved the comfort of use thanks to remote light switching in the corridors and social rooms.

Implementation and solution
High efficiency lighting for the largest savings
We carried out the audit of the PepsiCo production plants, based on which we created a savings calculation and plans for the modernization of the lighting system and replacement of existing luminaires. We took into account all legal requirements and standards applicable for specific areas in the building, including production halls, technical rooms, offices, corridors, social rooms, building facade and parking lot. To ensure the greatest possible savings, we used the existing wiring, adapting it to the needs of the new luminaires only in those places where it was necessary.
We decided to use the following luminaires: Highbay, Cordoba, Skylight, Edge, Downlight and Industrial . They provide light intensity of 300 to 500 lux, depending on the room and its purpose. Such choice allowed us to meet all customer’s expectations regarding cost savings, effective lighting modernization and increase of light intensity. In addition, the lighting system in offices, break rooms, bathrooms and corridors was integrated with an intelligent control system with motion detectors. We offered also a 60-month warranty for luminaires (from final acceptance date).

Other Case Studies
Illuminance measurement as an integral part of the lighting audit
The replacement of existing luminaires is preceded by an audit, which consists of the measurement of illuminance. This is a critical part of the the replacement of light sources with LED luminaires.
Why choose a wireless control system for a production hall?
When it comes to LED lighting, wireless shop floor control is a cost-saving feature. However, this is not the only advantage of using this type of solution.
